Welcome to St. Peter’s Church of Coupland, UCC. We strive to be “the little church in the country with the big heart.” We are country, surrounded by fields of cotton, milo and corn, yet within thirty minutes of downtown Austin. Here the blue, cobalt skies of Texas open up and embrace a person’s tired soul. Here, we seek to listen to God’s voice all around us, in scripture, in communion, in song and in the community of friends we call St. Peter’s.
As a church we are embedded in the long heritage of the United Church of Christ, directly descending from the early Pilgrims seeking religious freedom of thought, as well as many immigrant groups fleeing political and religious persecution of 19th century Europe. Those same values permeate our church today, where we believe every member has a right to their own interpretation of scripture, yet we can find our unity in Christ.
We are a small church from today’s standards, which means everyone has something to do and personal relationships are primary. Our members come from Austin as well as the surrounding ranches, some having worshipped here for generations and others just arriving last week. Thus we are a church in progress, seeking God’s leadership as we move into the future. We embrace that future with confidence that who we were is not who we are, and who we are is certainly not who we will be in the future. The future is God’s and we are trying faithfully to walk into that future together as a diverse group committed to Jesus Christ as our Savior.
